What is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is an epidemic that is afflicting millions of people on a daily basis and is only continuing to get worse. People are suffering with chronic pain due to old injuries, arthritis, or other conditions that have led to increased degeneration of the body. Excessive reliance on pain medication may lead to other health issues.
Chronic pain is summed up as the prevalence of pain symptoms that persist over 12 weeks and can last for months, if not years. Most chronic symptoms are dull and achy of a mild to moderate intensity but can "flare up" with severe and sometimes debilitating pain. Typically, chronic pain is the result of poor handling of the pain in its initial stages, the acute stage. The majority of time, the initial injury and pain is disregarded or treated improperly with self medication and home therapy. This leads to progressive pain and continuance of symptoms that become "chronic" over time requiring the patient to be seen by a physician or therapist. By this time, the body has physiologically changed to adapt to the pain leading to a viscous cycle of pain. In other words, you are now "getting used" to the pain and your body has inadvertently modified itself to compensate.
The key to breaking this cycle is proper diagnostics through consultation and diagnostics. Functional Chiropractic is designed to achieve this exact goal by testing the body in its normal or abnormal movement patterns on each visit as well as conducting orthopedic and neurological tests to determine the level of instability or weakness of the body itself. This differs from general care that strictly goes by only the symptoms. Symptom care is necessary of course but it will almost always come up short in actually finding and treating the root cause. This includes the cause not being of a structural origin as well.
What Is Functional Chiropractic Care?
At Rose Wellness Center, our trained chiropractor specializes in Functional Chiropractic care which is a comprehensive and integrative model of care utilizing biomechanical and orthopedic testing to determine a true diagnosis of the pain. This testing involves active and passive movement of the body to pinpoint areas of injury or pain as well as imbalances that have led to the symptoms. The chiropractor uses a hand's on approach to assess, treat, and rehabilitate your injuries. Treatment is tailored to the specific condition rather than a one size fits all approach. Chiropractic treatment uses gentle manual adjustments to the joints causing an increase of mobility to the restricted joint. This improves nerve flow, circulation, and overall relaxation to the muscles of the joint as shown by research.

How Can Functional Chiropractic Help?
Chiropractic is the largest non-medical approach to healthcare in the world. Treatment of chronic pain differs in its approach versus acute pain. The same chiropractic care that is applied to a back pain that happened last week is modified and enhanced for a chronic low back pain. Although the techniques may be similar, the approach changes or you could have consistent aggravation of the symptoms. This difference may consist of gentle chiropractic manipulations initially encouraging the body via soft tissue therapy or passive movement to help bring the body back to a balanced state. This may require the use of state of art therapy such as low level laser to increase the healing potential of the area involved. Research has shown that the best thing to do with chronic pain healing is to educate the patient about changes and modifications that must be made to allow for optimum healing and home care that can aid in recovery. Chronic pain does not have to limit your life. Functional Chiropractic care can help you navigate the potholes on the road to recovery.
We strive to provide the most detailed and comprehensive care on every single visit. Each visit begins and ends with functional assessments to first determine the area to be treated on that day and to later see if the treatment was successfully applied. Changes and results can be seen on the same day in most cases. The pain may require time to heal completely with proper training. Expect to spend between 30-45 minutes per visit and expect to have physical therapy and rehab from the first day. The quickest way out of pain and back to health is to actively treat the problem immediately. We do not believe in putting you on extended treatment plans, if not needed. No quick 5-minute visits and no cookie cutter chiropractic adjustments are ever done at our office.
What to Expect During Your Initial Visit?
Dr. Verma will conduct a comprehensive analysis that begins with reviewing your medical records and your health history. He will conduct a biomechanical assessment of your body to check for imbalances of joint or muscle as well as misalignment. This series of assessments helps to narrow down the diagnosis of your condition. A full orthopedic/neurological exam will be done to confirm or deny the diagnosis as well as check to see if you are a candidate for chiropractic care. If you have a case that can be helped with chiropractic and physical therapy, you will be treated on that day. If imaging is necessary or your case requires further investigation, you will advised appropriately.
Dr. Verma offers a free 15-minute consultation for chronic pain to determine if our functional chiropractic care can benefit you. Call to schedule a free consultation and feel free to bring in any information you may have that will help us with diagnosis and treatment.
